What is Indian Head Massage?

This relaxing massage treatment concentrates on upper body tension, face head, neck shoulders and back, to release stress and ease tired and aching muscles. The neck and the back are the areas on our body which are most prone to stiffness and pain. Desk jobs, long working hours and poor posture can all lead to a build-up of tension in the upper body. What’s more, the neck is a flexible structure which essentially connects the brain to the rest of the body, so it stands to reason that any discomfort in this area will have repercussions in other areas.

The therapist uses a range of different massage pressures and rhythms to stimulate the head area in particular. Because the head, face and neck store a great deal of the anxiety that accumulates in everyday life, TT clients can benefit from this either as a seated massage in a low back chair or on ergonomically designed massage chair. Incidentally, regular scalp massage is wonderful for improving the condition of your hair. Indian Head massage has become very popular in the west, particularly for those of us who have little spare time, as you can remain fully clothed and oils are only used if you wish.

This form of treatment does not require any clothes to be removed, however it is advisable to wear loose comfortable clothing such as a t-shirt. You will be asked to remove any glasses, earrings, necklaces and ties. Hair should be loose and not highly styled or have hair accessories in it as these will need to be removed. The treatment is performed sitting upright on a stool or low backed chair. No oils or creams are used during the treatment. The massage will consist of five sections the upper back, upper arms, neck, scalp and face.

During the massage session you may feel that there is a specific area that you do not want massaged or an area that you would like extra attention paid to. You may require a deeper or lighter pressure applied. In these circumstances your wishes are always taken into account. Once the massage session is completed, you will be given post treatment advice to help you get the best effects from your massage.
